I know, more on the bees?
Well, honestly it’s an exciting adventure and a pressing issue to the vitality of our food supply. I’m pretty sure this holds true for Jim and Jamie too, but for me it’s definitely more than fun photos a fancy suit and maybe some honey. It’s a chance to try ever so slightly to be a part of the solution, and to understand more about the fragility of our existence.
I use the power of bees and their hive activity as an analogy to a successful membership presence in a co-op grocery on our new Main Market web site. Not only because of the similarity of a stronger hive/membership going out and getting resources from the community and bringing it back to the hive/store to make it stronger and sweeter. But also, because bees are the foundation of our food supply. And a strong co-op should be able to be a similar asset to the local producer community of the Inland NW.
I came across a film being made to help people understand what’s at stake and the very long history our world has with bees. They need our support to complete the film and spread the buzz. See the trailer here, and please consider a donation to their efforts. Every dollar they receive is matched by a foundation supporting their work… now that’s cooperative!
p.s. the hives are doing well! last week’s check-in we saw both queens, eggs a-layin’ and honey filling the combs. and yes, I got a couple good flicks – they’re on Jim’s camera though!
