Stunning Pace

29 04 2009

Those who know me will think I’m off on a auto-biographical post, but hold on. It’s more than that.

If you’re even kindly still checking in to see if I’ll return from my blog vaca, thank you! After awhile, what kept me away was less my own schedule, and more my own fear (not to mention the reality that wordpress has not been all that compatible to my mac, which is portable and hence much more convenient!). Yup, FEAR. With all the updates on this site that had occurred in the past 3 months before my last post, I knew to be more than a little scared that I may not be able to even get in this site to post, much less understand how to navigate and use it. Truth be told, I don’t know if this very post will go anywhere.

Sure enough, I signed on tonight and like a bad picture, the blur of changes was unsettling. Now there’s a completely different layout for creating posts. I’ll tell ya WAAAY later if the changes actually added any value.

Meantime, enjoy Spring and plant your gardens and look forward to farmers’ markets opening across the country, offering great local foods!

A New Cone Claimed My Heart

21 09 2008

No snow cone.

No ice cream cone.

No cone head.

Yes, salumi cone!  Meet Boccalone.  The newest treat at the San Francisco Ferry Plaza Marketplace.  Any time of day, I’d be pleased to say… YES to tasty salted pig parts!  So much so, I bought the t-shirt on the spot!

no toppings necessary!

no toppings necessary!

For the record, anyone who can think up proPIGanda is a hero of mine.

Bees Knees

1 05 2008

I definitely need to figure out the perfect moment to connect the cocktail (a hands-down personal favorite in the summer) with the experience of beeing a beekeeper.  I cannot even pretend to have a handle on the upkeep, but am a tri-partner on 2 hives.  A couple weeks ago, we introduced them to home sweet home.

The good news is they went in the hives.  The bad news is the air temps plummeted right after that, and our good friend Jim Schrock (official keeper, as they are on his property) has been kind enough to supplement the gang with sugar water (sans gin), since they won’t go flying for the natural variety.

I was honestly freaked to be out there with them.  I had all sorts of irrational fears about them stinging me to death.  The bee suits or the bees themselves were kind, and I was able to avoid my worst fears.

After Bloomsday this weekend, we’re having a bee-rific check-in.  Cross your fingers the weather cooperates!  Rumor is they have a nasty attitude in the cold weather.  I might resemble that remark.

Participation

6 02 2008

So here I am writing a blog.  Actually not a likely scenario.

But I, like many others, do a fair amount of communication on-line.  Never really enjoying the phone for catching up, email is a quick replacement for the letters I used to write (yes, I was one of those).

I still pale in comparison to those who date on line, read books on-line, do ALL their banking on-line.  But shopping, paying bills, blogging and a ton of other pretty private activities are hosted in this medium.  An incredible amount of money is exchanged, yet we can’t vote on- line.

One Super Tuesday reporter commented that polls indicate the % of voters would increase substantially if folks could do it on-line.  They laughed it off as nonsense, assuming it could way too easily be fraught with fraud.

I say, FIGURE IT OUT!  If people are telling you the answer on how to improve the fundamental piece of democracy, in the words of Project Runway… “Make It Work!”

As for me, Hillary.  I wasn’t certain initially, but I’ve been able to clear the clouds.

While I personally don’t celebrate Valentine’s (i’m skeptical of romance at Hallmark’s prodding, but am all in favor the rest of the year), if you do… go organic with your bouquet!  Follow this link to a little discount to help take the edge off, and support flowers grown in a manner that protects the dirt and people that bring them to you.  It’s the Dutch tulips from CA that are organic.  Lots of other lovely treats & sweets on this Organic Style web site – yes, even some for your pets:)
